Trenton Elementary School

Parent Involvement Policy

Trenton Elementary School provides a safe and supportive environment where all students have the opportunity to reach their optimum academic, social, and artistic potential. We believe that family is an integral part of each child’s education and that all members of the school community model behaviors and attitudes that foster courtesy, respect, and a positive learning environment. We promote a partnership between the home and school and encourage parents to participate in all aspects of the educational process.

Parent Involvement Opportunities

There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer at Trenton Elementary School. All volunteers who work directly with students do so under the supervision of a teacher and have passed a criminal background check. When volunteering on campus all volunteers are required to sign-in at the school office and obtain a visitor’s badge. The following are ways that parents may volunteer:

Classroom Volunteers – There are numerous ways that parents can support the teacher by volunteering in the classroom, such as: preparing instructional materials, reading to students, tutoring students, etc.

Room Parent – Room Parents are instrumental in coordinating a variety of classroom events. The PTO works in partnership with the school to coordinate volunteering as a Room Parent.

Friday Morning Readers - Parents are encouraged to sign-up as a volunteer reader at any time, but the Friday Reader program is a great activity to read aloud to a whole class which allows the teacher to prepare "Friday Go Home" folders and complete other task.

Field Trip Chaperones – Teachers rely on parent volunteers to help monitor students during field trips.

School Events – The PTO sponsors many school events and activities that require the support of parent volunteers. Examples include: Fall Fest, Red Ribbon Week, Book Fair, School-Wide activities such as the end of school "Fun Day", etc. Parents are encouraged to attend PTO meetings to learn more about ways to get involved with the school. The school may be contacted at any time as well as the PTO board members to obtain additional information about various school events and activities that provide opportunities for parent involvement.
